Exhibition
The Exhibition is one of the three exam components for the IB Art Visual course. It is the culmination of the students’ IB Art experience, showcasing a selection of their best works in the form of a curated show. Students also articulate and defend their artistic intentions and goals for the show in a written curatorial rationale. Each selected artwork is supported by a concise explanation of the artistic intention for the artwork. This page showcases my works created in my junior and senior years.

Time is Money
Pencil and colored pencils on paper 18 x 24 in. (45.72 x 60.96 cm) My drawing of three luxury watches in different environments was inspired by the common aphorism: “time is money.” I tied this saying to my theme of fashion by depicting watches on people. I intended to portray symbols of time and money and achieved this through choosing luxury brand watches—intricate and rare pieces that display the personal responsibility and belief that time is an asset, as well as the economic status of the wearer. The message I wanted to convey was the importance of time. |
Idolatry
Colored pencils and collaged vinyl album on paper 20 x 18 in. (50.8 x 45.72 cm) This was my first artwork in which I used three-dimensional pieces. I used a shattered vinyl record to represent the brokenness of modern culture, in particular the musical aspect. Each symbol I drew in the middle represents objects or concepts frequently talked about in music today. The heart stands for lust, the money for greed, the jewelry for materialism, and the pills for a “quick fix.” I placed the record as if it were exploding outward to emphasize the objects I drew in the middle. |
Modern Minimalist
Pencil and colored pencils on paper 18 x 12 in. (45.72 x 30.48 cm) Here I drew a model on a runway for a fashion show. I was inspired by Todd Snyder’s line of clothing in collaboration with LL Bean for this artwork. I love minimalist fashion (simple designs and often muted colors on clothing) and Snyder’s outfit designs, and I wanted to portray that here. This style of dressing is also similar to my personal style, which is laid back and minimal. The outfit that I drew signifies one way that contemporary fashion can be styled to express a person’s identity. |
Signature Scent
Pencil and colored pencils on paper 6 x 6 in. (15.24 x 15.24 cm) This artwork of mine was inspired by the still life work of Willem Claesz Heda, specifically his depiction of glassware. Heda often emphasized the effects of light and reflections on the glassware as well as silverware in his paintings. I wanted to connect the idea of fragrance to my theme of fashion by drawing a “signature scent.” I believe everyone has a unique scent to themselves, and this can be enhanced with the use of a fragrance. |
Dapper Man Walks at Midnight
Brush pens on paper 12 x 18 in. (30.5 x 45.7 cm) For this artwork I did a similar design to Time is Money in that I divided it into three sections. I wanted to have a story-like layout, which was inspired by fashion designer Antonio Lopez’s photography and stringing photos together to create a “film.” For this outfit the wearer presents themselves in true minimalist clothing with only gray-scale colors. This shows how the wearer can control others’ perspective of them and conceal their identity to seem mysterious through the clothes they wear. |
